In my case, you develop your own recipe with the help of an air fryer.
This recipe is easy to make, quick to cook, and you can make it up to 24 hours in advance so you’re not rushed when you’re making other dishes .
I love a recipe that does double duty!
Tips for Air Fryer Grilled Pineapple Success
Be sure to gather your ingredients before you start cooking.
I also chose dark brown sugar.
It caramelizes well because it has more molasses in it.
Did you know that brown sugar is regular sugar with molasses?
Dark brown sugar creates a darker caramel color and richer taste than regular brown sugar.
That’s why you need to watch closely while cooking the pineapple.
Sugar burns quickly at higher temperatures, and then you have an awful mess on your hands.
If you’ve never burned sugar, consider yourself lucky and hope that you never do.
Cleaning up burned sugar is no fun, and it smells awful.
Let’s get cooking!
- 1 1/2 pounds fresh pineapple spears
- 1/2 cup Dark Brown Sugar
- 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 tablespoon Courvoisier or Rum (optional)
- Mix all of the ingredients except the pineapple in a large bowl or pan.
- When the mixed thoroughly, start adding the pineapple spears one by one, coating them with the sugar mixture.
- Begin cooking immediately or marinate for up to 24 hours.
- Set fryer to 400°F to pre-heat.
- Place pineapple spears in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
- Cook for 6-8 minutes brushing with any more of the sugar mixture after 3 1/2 minutes.
- Pineapples are ready when the sugar is caramelized and bubbly.
Serving suggestions - vanilla ice cream with sauce on top, make it a sundae with cut up pineapple spears mixed with the juice. If you choose to do this, make sure that all the sugar mixture is cooked to burn away the alcohol for any children eating them.
Fresh pineapple is best but you can use pineapple in 100% pineapple juice. You will have to adjust your cooking time for the smaller pieces.

A few notes on Air Fryer Grilled Pineapple
There are several ways to use this yummy pineapple.
In addition to the ones above, if you choose to use pineapple rings instead of spears you can use the rings in a Pineapple Upside Down Cake, as an ingredient in Pineapple delight or just for snacking.
